Tonight I was at work trying to finish a project that I’m working on. I don’t work at the kind of company that you need to be at work to still be working – so any time that I’ve had to be at the office late, 99% of the time, it’s just me and the cubes. Which was the case tonight. After about an hour or so, I decided to put some music on. There happened to be an all 80’s CD in the radio that was closest to me, which, for me anyway, really helps you solve problems. There’s nothing like Love is a Battlefield to help you problem solve.
Anyway, when The Way You Make Me Feel came on – I could not stop myself from taking a break to dance. So dance I did. And this wasn’t a little shuffle from side to side. When I dance, and I do it often, I really do dance like no one is watching. Especially when I think no one is watching. The white board markers were my microphone, the hallway was plenty of space for a moonwalk, and my audience was the cubes. Along with a member of the engineering team, who I noticed after a few spins around with my eyes closed, marker in hand. We’re calling him Source of Embarrassment Guy.
Me: Oh. Hello there. I’m Erin.
SOEG: Hi there. I’m (insert his name that I quickly forgot because I was self focused)
Me: Oh. I’ll um, turn down the music.
SOEG: No big deal.
Me: Um, ok.
Does it sound SUPER AWKWARD? I hope so. Because it was. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.
